There are times when we question our capability and chances to succeed, and these are the times when you must know “how to work on your confidence”. The silent self-doubt denies to leave your mind and makes you focus on your weakness. Before you surrender to such thoughts, you must know “how to be more confident in myself”. Remember, doubting yourself is like feeding the inner faultfinder who emasculates your success and growth. No matter, how hard you push yourself to positive thoughts, until and unless you crush the overpowering, crippling self-talk, self-doubt would not leave you.
To get rid of negative thoughts, it is important to remove self-doubt that is knitted into our minds. Although, lending an ear to our doubts at times is normal, constantly being at its receiving end hampers a fulfilling, enriching, and contented life. So, here I bring you 10 tips to increase your self esteem and to be bold and confident.

1)      Don’t Compare Your Achievements with Others

When you compare your accomplishments with your friends, siblings, and colleagues, you are bound to feel inadequate. But remember, other’s success is not a litmus test to determine your achievements. A vital factor to keep in mind is that everyone walks his/her journey and everything happens as per everyone’s own timeline. This is a foundation step towards how to feel more confident for self-doubting people. Try to find contentment in your life, follow what works best for you and makes you feel good about yourself.

2)      Calm the Inner Critic

Put the critic in you to rest as it helps to boost your self esteem. Doubt is woven in our nature that helps us overcome self-imposed restrictions. But overdose of it has serious repercussions so you have to overcome it. Never blame yourself for past failures as it results in destructive thoughts. What is gone, is gone. Look forward. Take positive steps towards your goals and face your doubts with self-compassion. Reconcile your fears and embrace challenges with gusto. Celebrate every time when you are victorious. It is a sure shot approach to gain confidence and a great way to conquer self-doubt.

3)      Avoid Making Excuses

Many a times excuses stop you from taking up challenges. The most common excuses are “I don’t have enough time”, “I’m too busy”, and “I don’t have enough money” and the like. These excuses are your escape routes. To be successful, you need to aspire for success like a thirsty person wants to drink water. So, be willing to implement every possible effort in your might, sans excuses. And remember, don’t label your ‘excuse’ with ‘reason’ as we sometimes do to be just in our eyes. Step on a ‘no-excuse’ route and be prepared to do what others won’t. Leaving excuses behind is one of the tips to be more confident.

4)      Go Ahead In spite of Fear

Don’t let fear build nest in your heart. Humiliation, rejection, being a loser, venturing into the unknown and the like are fears that hold you back from succeeding. Everyone goes through fear but the successful stand out by stepping up in spite of fear. Take courage and walk directly into the fright. The result? You will feel liberated and realize that fear is powerless.  Decide how bad you want something. Could you afford holding yourself back and lose it or want to go ahead and get it.

5)      Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Staying in your comfort zone will not take you anywhere. So try to embrace discomfort to make yourself more confident, you have to learn to step out of your comfort zone. Ask yourself – can you enter discomfort for a short time to gain long time success? If you receive an answer in affirmative, good news! You will definitely reach your goal.

6)      Appreciate How Far You Have Come

Everyone thinks about how far they have to go but rarely people realize how far they have come. Be one of the rare ones. If you are not where you want to reach, still you are ahead of where you used to be. We grow every day. So, try to put in your best and don’t stop moving forward. Every step will take you closer to your goal.

7)      Identify Your Fans and Nurture Relationships

There are times when we need to be reassured of our goodness, talent, and capabilities. This can be done by people who love us – family, friends, and colleagues. Trust them when they say you are superb or doing an amazing job at tasks you take up. Their appreciation infuses you with energy to believe in yourself, excel, and to be more confident at work as well in as in other spheres of life.  It is prudent to foster and nurture deep relationships with such people as they help you grow and be confident.

8)      Take Decisive Actions

Take actions to fulfill your desires. By putting your thoughts into actions, you are taking a bold step and responsibility of choices you make as well as their repercussions. Our self-doubt holds us back from taking risks and acting up to reach a goal. Compete this, and emerge as a winner – in your eyes, which is the most important.
A decision marks the beginning of your success. Once you take one, stay committed to it and work to make it happen. Once you pledge to stick to your decisions and work with a positive approach, crushing all the doubts and fears, trust me, your life will change for good. This is an amazing approach to rebuild self esteem.

9)      Take a Decision and Fine-Tune Your Course

You have taken a decision and have decided to stick to it. Good. But sometimes as we try to stick to our decisions, we feel caught up in it. And from here, the self-doubt rises its head – “Am doing the correct thing?” “What if this decision proves to be wrong?”
Questioning yourself and getting stuck in back-and-forth thought process can intensify self-doubt. To address such a situation, know that the mindset with which you initially made the decision was laced by your intuition, which usually is correct. Don’t let it be affected by opinions that confuse you. Once you have made a decision, stay with it but keep fine tuning it along the way.

10)   Recite Your Mantras for Support

Frame some mantras that motivate you to keep going. I have some that I recite whenever self-doubt engulfs me. These mantras charge my energy, boost my confidence, and I start again with enhanced motivation and determination. Here are a few of my all-time favorites –
